Redefining Possible
Today, our team of more than 1500 passionate engineers, experts, and leaders, are all focused on bringing our pioneering vision to life. We’re developing a world-class manufacturing facility in Marina, CA and have offices and workshops in Santa Cruz, San Carlos, Washington, D.C., and Munich, Germany.
But it hasn’t always been like that.
2009 The Beginning
Day and night, a small team of seven engineers worked out of “The Barn,” our workshop in the mountains above Santa Cruz. We explored the frontiers of technologies like electric motors, flight software, and lithium-ion batteries — engineering almost every component from the ground up.
2012 NASA Partnership
Beginning in 2012, Joby was selected to collaborate with NASA on several groundbreaking electric flight projects, including the X-57 and LEAPTech. We keep growing as time enhances.

Title: Sr. System Test – Test Engineer
Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to join our system testing team. As part of this team, you will perform structural, environmental, and functional tests of flight critical components and subsystems for VTOL electric aircraft. The data collected during these tests will inform the company’s hardware design efforts and pave the way to production-ready hardware. Flight Test Engineer (Marina, CA or Edwards AFB vicinity)
Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate and driven Flight Test Engineer to join our flight test team. This role requires a wide range of knowledge and skill that includes developing detailed flight test plans for experimental CTOL/VTOL fly-by-wire aircraft, executing testing as a crewmember, and test data analysis. The role involves planning and execution of both development and certification flight testing. Flight testing at Joby Aviation is very fast-paced, and we are looking for an individual who can work with system designers to develop test procedures, deal with frequently changing test scenarios, and lead/follow effectively. Hand Layup Apprentice
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our 2nd shift team as a Hand Lamination Apprentice. In this role, you will learn and perform composite hand layup operations to manufacture high-quality carbon fiber aerospace parts. Joby Aviation provides comprehensive training to develop your skills in ply placement, ply orientation, and material consolidation to achieve desired mechanical properties and part dimensions. This is an entry level position and no previous hand lamination experience required.
