Director of Operations duties and responsibilities

The Director of Operations will supervise managers while reporting to the Chief Executive Officer

The Director of Operations is responsible for:

  • Defining, implementing and revising operational policies and guidelines for the organization
  • Creating job descriptions, hiring competent personnel and overseeing employee training programs
  • Developing procedures for and implementing staff evaluations
  • Working with CEO to develop financial plans and ensure company-wide compliance
  • Keeping track of the company’s revenue margins and conducting budget reviews to maximize profits
  • Managing supply orders and tracking inventory
  • Manage patient support processes and develop them to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation
  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors/reps
  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability
  • Keeping track of the company’s revenue margins and conducting budget reviews to maximize profits

Director of Operations skills and qualifications
A successful Director of Operations candidate will have the following prerequisite skills and expertise:

  • Excellent leadership and organizational abilities
  • Superior knowledge of industry regulations and operational guidelines
  • In-depth knowledge of data analysis software
  • In-depth knowledge of customer service relationship management
  • In-depth knowledge of performance evaluation metrics in a medical business setting
  • Outstanding negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated success innovating solutions to increase productivity and profitability.

Director of Operations education and training requirements

Minimum Associate’s degree with special training in business administration, finance, management or a related field. Professional certifications in personnel management, operations management, data analysis or supply chain management are very useful.

Director of Operations experience requirements

Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an operations role and management or leadership capacity. Ideally has at least some billing/coding experience. Familiarity with accounts receivable
