Master Crafts Worker-Restaurant Mechanic

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, responsible for the maintenance and repairs on Monterey Bay Aquarium’s (MBA) restaurant mechanical equipment, refrigeration, and systems. Perform troubleshooting and specific preventative maintenance on food service equipment; coordinate, schedule, and supervise repair work by contracted service providers; provide MBA support and maintenance for plumbing shop duties; perform other duties as required.

Core Activities:    

  • Perform routine maintenance on restaurant and kitchen equipment.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment.
  • Identify solutions and conduct repairs.
  • Perform refrigeration troubleshooting and repair with outside contractors as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and document preventative maintenance procedures for new and existing kitchen equipment.
  • Enter work orders and utilize Archibus to track jobs and materials.
  • Work under the direction of the Plumbing shop supervisor to provide plumbing assistance and perform preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Manage contracted service providers including identifying potential vendors, scope of work, bids, price negotiation, and performance management.
  • Partner with events teams to troubleshoot and improve kitchen process and upgrade equipment as needed.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to follow safe work conditions that meet OSHA standards and requirements for all work performed.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license with clearance in the DMV pull program
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, evenings, and weekends
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills in Windows
  • Forklift and scissor lift certifications
    CFESA certification
  • Refrigeration certificate in EPA 608 Type I, II, and III required
  • Advanced mechanical and power tool skills
  • At least 5 years’ experience with plumbing and refrigeration trade experience
  • Ability to work within, and maintain Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Core Values
