First 5 Monterey County is seeking a dynamic, bilingual Community Organizer to help grow the Central Coast Early Childhood Advocacy Network (CCECAN). This position will join our team to promote early childhood advocacy at the federal, state and regional levels through capacity building workshops, town hall forums, legislative visits, and other related activities. The focus of this position is to deepen parent leadership development and increase tri-county (Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito) collaboration. Duties and Responsibilities

Outreach and Engagement

  • Conduct direct outreach to parents and caregivers in all three counties and support their leadership abilities and participation in various Network activities and leadership roles
  • Participate in various community meetings and events
  • Develop trusting relationships with parent leaders and key community constituencies

Leadership Development

  • Work with the CCECAN Planning Group to co-create opportunities for parents directly affected by CCECAN priority issues to be at the table, making decisions with the aim of generating equity-driven policy and systems change
  • Facilitate communication, collaboration, and power-sharing between parents and community groups
  • Support parent leaders in analyzing problems, designing solutions and implementing effective strategies for change, including the use of storytelling to influence decision makers
  • Set meeting agendas, facilitate meetings, draft meeting notes, delegate tasks, and outreach to other parents and support parent leaders to do the same

Administration & Communications

  • Coordinate logistics for workshops, events, and other advocacy activities
  • Develop bilingual flyers, reports, slide decks, forms, and letters
  • Maintain detailed records, including attendance, meeting notes, and database management
  • Prepare reports and conduct parent surveys
  • Arrange incentives, interpretation, child care for scheduled meetings, and events
  • Assist with interpretation and translation
  • Support writing of reports and present as necessary to the F5MC Commission, Staff, funders, and general public
  • Participate in special projects as assigned, assuming responsibility for the end product

  • Bilingual/biliterate in both English and Spanish languages
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and racial equity
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with creative problem solving capacities and the ability to motivate and engage others
  • Growth mindset with a desire to cultivate leadership skills in oneself and others
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and self-direct, working effectively with little direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment with established guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new applications
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel independently within Monterey County to attend meetings as needed
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Available to work before and after office hours on occasion for meetings or to meet deadlines as needed
  • Ability to work cooperatively within this highly collaborative and diverse work environment
  • English and Spanish proficiency is essential for the position

Salary:

This position is classified as a Program Officer I. It is a non-exempt position. The hourly rate is in six steps and the starting salary is dependent on qualifications. This position is a 3-year grant funded position.
