The County of Monterey Department of Social Services, through the Care and Shelter Branch of the Emergency Operations Center is seeking temporary staff to serve as Temporary Alternate Housing Site Workers. Alternate Housing Sites temporarily house COVID-19 positive and exposed residents who have no place to safely isolate during their designated isolation period.

This position is primarily based in King City; however Temporary Alternate Housing Site Workers may be assigned in other locations throughout the County. Temporary Alternate Housing Site Workers will receive safety training and COVID-19 vaccine appointment will be provided.

The ideal candidate should be flexible, adaptable and possess the ability to perform general duties such as being discrete and maintaining guests’ confidentiality, clerical support, damage assessment, driving, sorting, packing, or loading prepared meals.

Examples of Duties
Tasks and duties of an Alternate Housing Site Worker may include, but are not limited to:

-Welcomes guests to the Alternate Housing Site and take the necessary steps to ensure the guest(s) have what they need to isolate and recover comfortably.
-Ensures the Alternate Housing Site guests have necessary items: additional personal hygiene items, distributing/offering snacks, and water, including a great deal of walking.
-Performs physical trailer maintenance duties, which could include trailer cleanup and other needs that arise.
-Personally, delivers food and other items to COVID positive guests in all types of weather.
-Reports guest health information to the Site Managers.
-Completes the required registration forms with the new guest and orients guests to the Alternate Housing Site, including their room or trailer assignment.
-Decontaminates guest’s cloth belongings using the Bug Oven, if needed.
-Completes required guest forms (electronic or paper), including guest referrals for other services or benefit programs.
-Works with other site staff and security to ensure the Alternate Housing Site is safe for staff, guests, and security.
-Supports the effort of all staff by following all safety protocols regarding fitting, donning, and doffing provided personal protective equipment when appropriate.
-Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Teams and Excel.  Will be willing to train the right candidate with basic computer skills.
-Assist medical staff as needed and requested to support guest services.
-Observe any access and functional needs a guest might need and following up with the guest and the Site Manager.
-Observe ALL preventative health and safety protocols established by the County Health Officer to ensure personal safety and prevent cross-contamination.
-Report any violations of the guest’s Code of Conduct to shelter management.
-Report any personal observations of guest conduct to the Site Manager that requires assistance or attention by on-site medical personnel, the Emergency Operations Center assigned medical doctor, and/or a licensed behavioral health clinician.
-Report ANY incidents of suspected or actual child abuse or adult abuse to the Site Manager.
-Attending and participating in all assigned meetings while on shift.

Additional Information

The physical demands and requirements:

-Walking at least 10,000 steps per day.
-The ability to squat down and push and pull levers in and out.
-The ability to bend over and go upstairs while carrying items that weigh more than 5 lbs. but not over 30 lbs.
-The ability to tolerate potentially strong odors from septic tanks and the adjusting of above ground black water drainage lines from travel trailers.
-The ability to handle the visual sight and potential smells of dirty laundry as workers will be sorting laundry while wearing provided personal protective equipment.
-The ability to drain, flush, and refill black water tanks while wearing provided personal protective equipment.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

-Successfully complete a thorough background check.
-Work flexible hours, alternating shifts, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
-Follow ALL directives and orders of the County Health Officer.
-Maintain confidentiality and discretion of guests and the program by never responding to questions or requests from the media.  Redirects ALL requests from the media (news, radio or otherwise) to the Site Manager who will then consult with the Monterey County Alternative Housing Sites Program Lead and the Care & Shelter Public Information Officer.
