PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Administrator or designee, translates documents, student Individual Education Plans (IEPs), communications and correspondence and interprets at meetings, from English to Spanish and vice versa; and performs varied and
responsible clerical duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
Provides typed translations of legal documents (i.e. Individual Educational Plans, Local Control Accountability Plans), student data and related information, correspondence, communications and informative materials from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.

Performs responsible clerical duties including, but not limited to: manipulating and maintaining computer data base information systems, and maintaining filing systems, record keeping, maintaining student records, and composing routine correspondence.

Maintains records related to compliance and program quality reviews.

Attends meetings during regular working hours as required by the District.

Arranges meetings, notifies participants, prepare materials and takes minutes as directed.

Establishes positive communication with families to assist families with registration, program eligibility/ identification, contact with community agencies and other issues related to categorical programs.

Researches and maintains data and records for program, county, state and federal reports.

Answers incoming phone calls and transfers calls or takes messages as appropriate.

Greets, informs and directs visitors, staff and students, in person or over the telephone with courtesy and diplomacy; ascertains nature of business and provides standard information related to area of assignment.

Interprets for staff, parents, and students at meetings, district-wide, as assigned by the Administrator or designee.

Performs other job-related duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incorporated within one or more of the essential functions of this position are the essential physical requirements. Ability to see for purposes of reading records, policies and printed matter. Ability to understand speech at normal, in person or on the telephone. Ability to communicate, so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone. Ability to operate computer equipment, typewriter, calculator, copy machine and other office machines with dexterity. Ability to occasionally lift/carry office supplies and printed materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Business office working environment subject to sitting at a desk for long periods of time, bending, crouching, or kneeling at file cabinets, pushing/pulling of file drawers, reaching in all directions and prolonged periods of time working at a computer terminal.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of:
Strong English and Spanish verbal and written communication skills including spelling, grammar and punctuation; modern office methods and practices; computer software programs in word processing and data management; proper phone etiquette; record keeping.
Ability to:
Communicate in English and Spanish effectively in oral and written form and to understand and follow oral and written instructions in an independent manner; type at a speed of 50 wpm in both English and Spanish; multi-task; work independently with limited supervision; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; understand and implement laws and policies regarding confidentiality of student records; operate a variety of office machines including computers, typewriter, calculator, copier, fax, communication radios; and other office machines and equipment.
Experience:
Experience in interpreting and translating, preferably within a public agency; two (2) years of experience in clerical work of a responsible nature; working with disabled children and their families.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; college-level coursework in Spanish or appropriate certification as a Translator or the ability to pass the District’s Translator examination.
