DESCRIPTION:

RCCA(Rancho Cielo Construction Academy) is designed to provide underserved youth with an opportunity to gain classroom training, hands-on work experience and transferrable skills that help them become employable and/or prepare for postsecondary education. This position will work alongside Lead Instructor (General Contractor) and support the overall coordination of construction and construction training activities of the program. RCCA will build tiny home units and youth will be exposed to all trades involved in the construction of new housing units.

This is a full-time position now through 9/30/2021. It will transition to part-time beginning October 1, 2021.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives supervision from RCCA Lead Instructor (General Contractor)
Exercises supervision over program participants.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Coordinate and deliver vocational/construction instruction for underserved students using standardized
curriculum and construction site.
• Teach a variety of carpentry skills including rough framing, roofing, drywall, and finish carpentry to RCCA
participants.
• Teach the proper use and handling of all hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
• Establish and maintain positive relationship with program participants.
• Maintain high standard and expectations from program participants.
• Coordinate and manage construction logistics with all those involved.
• Assist Lead Instructor with following detailed construction plan and schedules for students.
• Maintain and promote safety practices.
• Coordinate inventory control with Lead Instructor
• Support Lead Instructor with maintaining strong working relationships and partnerships with local
contractors to promote mentoring and employment opportunities for youth participants.
• Actively participate in case management of participants and evaluation of their performance.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• Demonstrated ability and experience to teach a variety of basic construction skill courses.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships with construction industry.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diversity, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and risk
factors of marginalized youth in the Monterey County area.
• Demonstrated ability to manage, mentor and marginalized youth.

Ability to:
• Work with Lead Instructor to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the work ofstudents
• Support construction training activities to ensure that all students learn the basic of construction skills and
obtain basic construction skills certificate.
• Use a strengths-based approach working with youth and young adults.
• Work independently.
• Work collaboratively with a team in order to achieve program goals.
• Participate and maintain adequate training in order to be able to teach standardized construction
curriculum.
• Make sound independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and partnerships.
• Effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms.
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of
required duties.

Training and experience:

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities:
• General contractor license
• Vocational Training Credential
• Journeyman, with at least 5 years of experience working in the construction industry.
• Bilingual — Spanish/English preferred.

Possession of:

A valid and appropriate California Driver’s license, including a safe driving record.
