Peacock Acres Youth Support Counselor I/Facility Manager (YSC I/FM) is a full-time or part-time position that provides a safe and therapeutic environment for foster youth living at the Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP). YSC I/FM staff oversee the facility and the well-being of residents under the direction of the STRTP Program Manager.

Expectations:

YSC I/FM staff are to attend 40 hours of training annually. Such training is provided by Peacock Acres staff or qualified outside providers.

Responsibilities:

Provide parental quality supervision and guidance to youth at the facility.
Supervise and interact with the residents and encourage socially acceptable behavior in all situations that include in house and in the community.
Implement daily STRTP schedules that include study times, meal plans, chore list, room inspections, recreational activities, etc.
Transport residents to various functions such as school, family visits, doctor appointments, counseling sessions, TLC, Peacock Acres main office, recreational events and/or practices, and employment.
Prepare meals and snacks for residents during shift.
Be able to intervene during crisis situations and make appropriate decisions.
Provide conflict resolution with residents and be able to implement Peacock Acres’ Emergency Intervention Plan and/or call 911 in case of an emergency.
Supervise well-being of residents.
Administrate discipline and set limits for appropriate behavior.
Initiate recreational activities for residents during their shift.
Report to STRTP Program Manager, Head of Service, Clinical Director, or Administrator the identification of any additional needs or services for particular residents.
Communicate with co-workers and management team regarding residents’ behavior and needs.
Communicate with peers and management team regarding residents’ behavior and needs.
Contribute to progress notes about STRTP residents.
Assure cleanliness, appearance and maintenance of the facility and surrounding grounds.

Qualifications:

1-2 years residential experience preferred
1-2 years experience working with gender and age group of facility preferred
Moderate cooking skills
Must be able to exercise good judgement and to handle confidential issues
Ability to de-escalate potentially stressful situations
Adaptable/flexible
Self-motivated and willing to take initiative

Additional Requirements:

Satisfy the Department of Social Services and Department of Justice finger print clearance requirements
Possess a valid California Driver’s License and have access to a reliable and insured vehicle
Have a clean DMV printout
Have negative T.B. Test
Current First Aid/CPR certification
