Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director or designee, this position is a direct service,
one–to-one ratio, providing independent living skills (ILS) training to people with developmental
disabilities. The service is provided in a community setting or in the consumer’s home. The ILS
trainer will work as scheduled by the immediate supervisor. The ILS trainer must follow the
Mission Statement, Vision, and Value of New Horizon Community Services.

General Statement of Duties

  •  Assist Clients in selecting realistic goals and objectives.
  • Implement client’s training and support program.
  • Assess, evaluate, and implement client’s goals.
  •  Pick-up and drop off clients according to written schedules.
  •  Record data and maintain accurate case notes.
  •  Follow policies and procedures.
  • Provide constant supervision to clients.
  •  Accept changes in assigned case load.
  •  Maintain positive communication and relationship with his/her supervisor.
  •  Provide reports in a timely manner.
  •  Provide direct service as required and needed.
  •  Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  •  Possess High School Diploma or equivalent.
  •  Familiarity with development disabilities/special needs.
  •  Ability to adapt to new changes.
  •  Possess effective writing skills.
  •  Ability to identify clients’ needs.
  •  Overtime may be required as needed, but prior approval from Executive Director is
    required.
  • Capable to make on-site visits from consumer agencies and employers.
    Other Requirements
  • CPR and first aid certification prior to working with clients (and maintained).
  •  Fingerprint clearance through Department of Justice prior to hire (Licensed facilities).
    Certification of no history of criminal convictions as outlined in DSS licensing Criminal
    record Statement (LIC 508).

  •  Must maintain a California Driver’s license and good driving record.
  •  Must be capable to perform minimal physical requirements.
  •  Must complete orientation program within 30 days of the day of hire.
  • Possess vehicle insurance under his/her name and a reliable vehicle prior to hire.

Normal Working Hours:
Specific work hours may vary as required. This is a part time/full time position.
