Basic Functions:

Under general supervision, assist with day-to-day operations of MCARLM including correspondence and file maintenance; assist with the planning and coordination of special events; graphics design and production; assist with interpretive tours; and perform related work as required.

Typical Duties (May include but are not limited to the following):

  • Plan, promote and coordinate special events.
  • Design and prepare printed materials, including posters, brochures, and quarterly newsletter.
  • Prepare letters, reports, and publicity releases.
  •  Respond to questions from the public; interpret historical exhibits, information, and programs.
  • May supervise museum tour guides.
  • Answer phone, route mail, maintain filing system and make deposits.
  • Membership support including coordination of annual membership drive.
  • Assist with museum education programs.
  • Responsible for the operation of the Museum Gift Store.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of:

  • The principles and practices of non-profit organization operations.

Some Knowledge of:

  • The principles and practices of supervision.
  • The principles and practices of promoting special events.
  • Research methods.
  • Office procedures.
  • Computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and publications.

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Assist in the planning, development, promotion, coordination and implementation of museum programs, activities, and events.
  • Interpret history exhibits, information, and programs.
  • Design and prepare printed materials, including posters, brochures, and quarterly newsletter.
  • Interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Research and evaluate information and data and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally, and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with a wide variety of individuals and organizations.
  • Organize and accomplish tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities are qualifying.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of regional history
