Seafood Watch Content Creator

Job Summary:  Under general supervision, develop and deliver rich content in a variety of formats to support audience engagement with the Seafood Watch Program, ensuring best-in-class storytelling that supports the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s mission to inspire conservation of the ocean. This role includes creative concept ideation, asset creation, and coordination, as well as content-related project management. The content creator also participates in social care, responding to questions and comments from followers in a timely and engaging way.  Perform other duties as required.

Core Activities:

  • Develop program content and materials for web and print (e.g., distill and repackage science-based papers into web content, update the biannual Seafood Watch consumer guide, provide updates to conservation and business partners).
  • Ensure that program content is accurate and portrayed in a consistent manner across all Seafood Watch platforms.
  • Develop content for our social media channels.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement social campaigns that will drive action in support of the Aquarium’s conservation programs.
  • Participate in ideation sessions with key stakeholders and develop assets for social campaigns.
  • Liaise with the Aquarium marketing, exhibits, and print graphics teams and share Seafood Watch program updates to ensure consistent on-brand messaging for Seafood Watch program content on Seafood Watch channels (website, social media, e-news) as well as Aquarium channels.
  • Cultivate relationships with the program’s current followers and engage in online conversation to increase Seafood Watch online presence and grow fans organically. Support online customer care efforts by responding to questions and comments from followers on social media platforms.
  • Produce, schedule, deliver and evaluate routine and ad hoc Seafood
  • Watch email communications/newsletters.
  • Assist with content gathering for various Seafood Watch outreach activities (i.e., photos, events, logos) as needed.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 3+ years experience developing written content for a public-facing organization
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage social media content; avid user and early adopter of social platforms
  • Subject matter proficiency related to basic marine biology and/or environmental science
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; able to distill complex ideas and scientific concepts in an accurate, engaging, and understandable way for the general public
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; ability to understand, incorporate and communicate frequently changing information
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in working across departments and among a diversity of stakeholders
  • High level of problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work within and maintain Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Core Values
  • Remote or hybrid work location possible

Physical Requirements to Perform Essential Job Functions:   

  • Typical office equipment
  • Long duration of sitting for primary core activities; occasional walking, standing, bending
  • Occasional unassisted lifting up to 30 lbs
  • Typical office environment; travel to offsite client locations for conferences, special events.
