Dependent Upon Education and Experience

Requirements / Qualifications

-Demonstrated knowledge and teaching experience with adult students with a focus on curriculum planning, instruction, assessment and evaluation


-Teaching experience in ESL

-Masters Degree in TESOL, Linguistics or related field

-TESOL certification

-Fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and/or FBI

-Proof of Tuberculosis clearance

-Social Security Card for payroll purposes

-Proof of eligibility to work in the United States]

ESL teacher for morning and evening sessions. Morning sessions are from 8:30-11:30 (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) and 8:30-10:30 on Wednesdays with staff collaboration and professional development from 10:45 – 12:30. Evening sessions are 6:00 – 8:30 Monday through Thursday. The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is looking for a progressive, talented and passionate individual to teach English as a Second Language at Monterey Adult School – (Marina location) for the 22/23 school year. Monterey Adult School serves adult immigrants seeking to build literacy and civic skills that unlock doors to opportunity. Our ideal candidate is someone who is focused on equitable educational opportunities, positive and flexible, and seeks to be involved in shifting the life trajectories of our students. The candidate must be able to work the morning and evening shift M-Th and attend weekly meetings Wednesday mornings. We are interested in candidates who are passionate about our mission and vision and who are looking for long term employment. The part time schedule envisioned for the 22-23 school year involves teaching English embedded into Civics themes during the evening from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm, M-Th and includes weekly meetings Wednesday mornings from 10:30 am-12:30pm. Additional opportunities may arise in the morning for the right candidate. We are hoping to employ someone who understands the importance of building positive relationships with students, who has a proven track record of working with students with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and is innovative and reflective about their teaching practice. We offer a flexible work schedule, support for our teachers, and the ability to focus on instructional pedagogy and relationships over grading and discipline.
