Performs screening and diagnostic mammography procedures. He/she will individualize patient care based upon the age appropriate and developmental needs. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his/her unit. Takes call as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
1. The Mammography coordinator performs screening and diagnostic mammography procedures, evaluates mammography outcomes and performs mammography patient tracking. Essential duties include:
a. Ensuring all mammograms have been properly oriented to positions utilizing orientation checklist, competency criteria and performance reviews. Instructs new employees on operation of equipment.
b. Demonstrates and in-depth knowledge of breast imaging and procedures and quality control, acting as a technical resource.
c. Reviews physician orders for breast imaging and coordinates with radiologists, surgeons, and other imaging modalities the various examinations to ensure effective use of times, resources and equipment. In addition, the mammographer tracks prior patient images to provide to the radiologist for comparative interpretation.
d. Adherence to the principles of ALARA when performing mammogram procedures.
e. Patient advocacy, working with physicians, patients and scheduling to minimize conflict and inconvenience.
f. Acts as a resource to women with health concerns, including teaching breast self-examination and breast health
g. Leads the process to maintain credentialing status of the ACR, FDA and State of California. Is able to perform breast imaging and procedures to patients of all age groups.
h. Performs and coordinates the quality control programs which are required by the FDA/ACR/CA laws. Coordinates preventative maintenance programs to ensure compliance with all safety regulations and governing agencies. Maintains service logs and schedules equipment for service, repairs and inspections.
i. Represent the Mammography Department on various health committees.
j. Oversees the ordering of supplies and inventory levels to ensure that operations are maintained without interruption in the mammography suite.
k. Assist the Diagnostic Imaging Manager in developing marketing strategies for promotion and expansion of Mammography services.
l. Performance of Bone Density Procedures, CT and General X-ray Procedures as needed
Current registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) and advanced ARRT certification in Mammography.
Radiology and Mammography certification by the State of California Department of Health Radiologic Health Branch.
Current AHA BLS Certification.
Minimum of five years mammography technologist experience.
Must be able to stand/walk between 4 to 6 hours per day.
Must be able to bend, reach overhead, crouch, balance and push up to two hours per day.
Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
Will be dealing with patients’ age 0 to 120 years.
Exposure to Hazards:
Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious disease/needle puncture wounds, and chemical agents.
