DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Director of Educational Services, or other assigned administrator(s), the district registrar-receptionist greets callers and visitors to the Office of Educational Services, acts as a registrar and receptionist who provides information, assistance and directions; performs a variety of duties in support of the operations of student registration into the comprehensive education and special education programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following is a list of duties that is representative of the position that includes but is not limited to:
· Greet community, parents, faculty, and other visitors entering the office of Educational Services
· Operate a multi-line telephone in the office entry area, answer and transfer calls to appropriate offices and personnel
· Provide information, assistance and directions regarding district activities, facilities and procedures
· Perform a variety of routine, non-technical, simple tasks, or general clerical work in support of the district function
· Type general office correspondence as needed
· Sort and file material alphabetically, numerically and chronologically
· Operate various office equipment including typewriter, computer, copier and shredder
· Serve as the lead person for the registration process and communication with the school site office staff
· Serve as the lead person for the special education assessment process and documentation
· Perform related duties as assigned

Education and Experience
· Any combination of education equivalent to a high school diploma
· At least one year of general clerical experience involving extensive public contact
· Possession of a current valid California Driver’s License
Ability to
· Interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public
· Demonstrate understanding, patience, a positive attitude and genuine interest in working with the community and people at large
· Handle information in a discreet and confidential manner
· Plan, formulate and execute clerical procedures and directives in accordance with assigned duties
· Operate a variety of office machines including computers
· Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
· Be flexible with a positive attitude and possess excellent interpersonal skills
· Maintain accurate and neat records and reports
· Meet schedules and timelines
· Understand and follow written and oral directions
· Perform under demanding and varied work schedule with ability to remain flexible and focused during interruptions and distractions
· Establish and maintain co-operative relationships with those contacted during the performance of required duties
· Communicate effectively in the English and Spanish language both orally and in writing as demonstrated by a passing score on the district’s bilingual proficiency test
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience and/or course work in data processing
· Experience working with children, community and parents
· Previous experience in a school district or government entity
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to see for purposes of reading computer screens, correspondence, documents, and other printed matter
· Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and/or on the telephone
· Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person, on the telephone, and or on two-way radio
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Office working environment subject to sitting at a desk or conference table for long periods of time, using computer and telephone for prolonged periods of time, and reaching in all directions
· Use of a personal or district vehicle to visit school sites or travel within Monterey County to attend meetings

$16.23 – $20.71 per hour
