Job Description:

1. Counselor are hired to treat child clients in various schools around Monterey County. Counselor are required to attend an orientation at the start of each school year- to be trained on current requirements and methodologies exacted by Harmony At Home. When hired during the school year, counselor are required to participate in a modified version of the training offered at the beginning of the school year.

2. Orientation/ Training is mandatory and all counseling staff will be paid. Trainees and Interns can also receive hours signed off by their clinical supervisors.

3. Counselors are to report to the Program Manager with any program or agency issues. PPS, Interns and Trainees are to report to their clinical supervisors with any issues related to client welfare.

4. All trainee, Intern and PPS credentialed counselors are to attend Supervision. Licensed therapists are to have regular phone check-ins with the Program Director as she requests. Please be informed that your  Clinical Supervisor and/or the Program Director will be conducting at least two site visits per year to observe your work with the students. If a clinician need to make up supervision s/he will be responsible for payment of supervision at $75/hr. All phone calls initiated by the Clinical Supervisor, Executive Director, Program Director of HAH office need to be returned within 24 hours.

5. All counselors must have training in Law and Ethics and adhere to practices set forth by HAH. All counseling staff is to prove HAH with confirmation that they have obtain deduction on Law and Ethics every two years. These standards will be reviewed during orientation. HAH’s Program Director, Executive Director and Supervisors hold an open door policy. When in doubt-contact one of them.

Any violation of legal or ethical standard will be reported to the Board of Behavioral Sciences.

6. All counselors are CPS mandated reporters. Counselors are expected to file reports to Child Protective services (CPS) upon any reasonable suspicion of child abuse. Counselors are required to keep original reports in client’s files if it is faxed, or a copy if original is mailed to CPS. Counselors will provide one copy to their supervisor(s), and one copy will be retained at the HAH office. Every Intern, Trainee, PPS Credentialed and Licensed Therapist need to alter their school Principal when they have made a report. If the school Principal requires a copy of said report, the Counselor needs to confirm the report will be placed in a locked file cabinet. Once this has been confirmed, the Counselor is to provide the Principal with said report.

7. Counselors are encourage to share HAH’s mission with the public: “to end the cycles of violence and abuse by empowering children and young adults with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead a healthy and productive lives”. Counselor are NOT to speak for the organization, or take actions on behalf of the organization, without approval from the President/ CEO.

8. Counselors are required to keep communications open with school personnel including, but not limited to, the Principal and Teachers. Good communications by the counselors to school personnel is vital. This cannot be stressed enough. You represent the organization and the primary link between the school and the organization.

9. Counselors are expected to track their hours at the school while counseling and doing paperwork. You will be responsible for the hours you are contracted for. You will be given a timesheet to track hours, and these must be submitted to the office every two weeks: on the 11th and the 26th-by noon. A bi-monthly status on contract hours. A Clinical Supervisor will monitor trainee hours.

10. Counselors are to coordinate their vacation and personal time off with their school’s vacation and closure times. If a vacation is taken during school days, ample notice need to be given and the counselors needs to inform their Clinical Supervisor(s), HAH office and their school(s) to make best efforts at informing child client o f their absence. In the event of absence due to sickness or an emergency, notification is to be made to the Clinical Supervisor, HAH office and school(s) as soon as possible.

11. Monthly reports are due by the 5th of each month. Reminders will be sent out in advance and they are expected to be completed no later than 5pm on the 5th of every month. Other reports may be required that are equally vital, and must be done in a timely manner.

12. A plastic tub of supplies and a locking tote for client files will be given to each counselor at the beginning of the school year. It is your responsibility to contact the office if you require more supplies. Client files are to be protected at all times, and are not to be left at the school. The supplies tub can be kept at the school if the school provides a space.

13. Client files are to be maintained on a daily or weekly basis- so as not to omit information because of a lapse in time. Each time a child is seen there must be documentation i his/her progress notes with a current mental status. Files will be checked on a regular basis, ensuring this practice is maintained.

14. At the end of year, all client files must be completed, including all necessary parts.

A. Complete & Signed progress notes

B. Closing summary for each client served

C. Begore and After counseling matrix evaluation must be completed. This is a measurement that is used to show the number of improved clients. Every effort must be made to secure these evaluations.

D. Completed Principal and Teacher evaluations are very important

E. Initial program recommendation forms should be included to show presenting issues.

F. Copies of any outside referrals made

G. Any applicable legal/ ethical documentation should also be included. Such as copies of CPS reports, signed consent forms, Release of Information, child custody agreements, etc.
