GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for helping Dole advance on its ongoing commitment to become a more sustainable and socially responsible company. The Sustainability Manager co-ordinates the delivery of the corporate sustainability program and makes recommendations to senior leadership to execute strategies to enhance our approach to sustainability initiatives. The position works cross-functionally between our Ag Operations, Supply Chain and Manufacturing departments.

Required Skills

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

  • In collaboration with senior leadership, develop appropriate goals, metrics and processes for measuring the Company’s performance with respect to sustainability including safety, health, environmental, community engagement and government relations objectives.
  • Collect and analyze company-wide data on sustainability initiatives and programs and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to provide senior management with relevant analysis and recommendations on sustainability programs and reporting.
  • Continuously monitor sustainability developments, industry standards, and regulations that may affect the company, adapting the program as appropriate.

  • Apply relevant standards and frameworks to Dole’s sustainability efforts.
  • Lead and coordinate company-wide tools for sustainability measurement and monitoring; monitor compliance with sustainability-related policies.
  • Responsible for reporting and tracking for sustainability metrics internally and with respect to outside rating agencies; responsible for submissions to various rating agencies and act as the main point of contact for rating agencies.
  • Work with various functional and department leaders to develop and implement sustainability programs that prioritize company-wide efforts. to ensure that initiatives the “move the needle” the most are those that are acted upon.
  • Facilitate Social Responsibility program and strategic sustainability initiatives in coordination with Dole Food Company.
  • Assist with the development, audit, training and education tools related to essential functions of this job as it relates to jobs in other operational areas.
  • Prepare periodic reports as required to inform, educate, and envision future operational opportunities.

Required Experience

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skill And Experience Requirements)

  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of key sustainable agriculture practices e.g., entomology, soil health, water & energy conservation, etc.
  • Exceptional cross-functional management skills; ability to bring people together around a common goal and lead by influence
  • Strong written and presentation skills for high-visibility storytelling, both internally and externally; adept at synthesizing complex inputs from multiple stakeholders
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels through establishing positive, mutually respectful and productive working relationships
  • Excellent written and oral business communication skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills, including Windows, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Knowledge of manufacturing safety programs, quality assurance and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

ROLE COMPETENCIES

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONS

Internal Relations in this role includes the full scope of the enterprise throughout the entire supply chain to the point of delivery.

External Relations for this role includes all service providers, product, packaging and/or equipment suppliers providing project deliverables both consumable and capital, peers within the industry, end-users of product innovations, technology partners, etc.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

BA/BS in related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to walk fields in various weather conditions: Frequent bending, stooping, standing, walking, crawling, and reaching with hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to work in refrigerated atmosphere for lengthy periods of time.  Able to travel.

WORK HOUR AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENT

  • Ability to travel and drive
  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours, weekends and some company holidays as needed.
  • Will require extended hours work coverage as needed and given business environment and conditions
