CENTRAL COAST CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING (CCCIL)
CCCIL is consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, nonresidential nonprofit agency. That provides independent Living core services to individuals with disabilities, regardless of age, income or disability type. This includes services to children and youth with disabilities. CCCIL was established in 1984 for the purposes of improving
the lives of individuals with disabilities of all ages and all disabilities living in the tri-county area (Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito) by providing independent living services and service coordination.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) non-exempt, benefit eligible position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This position requires the availability to work occasional weekends and evenings.
JOB SUMMARY
Position in the Independent Living Program based at a non-profit Center for Independent Living to provide direct services that promote the independent living philosophy of consumer control, equal access and equal opportunity for people with disabilities. This position is responsible for providing one-to-one case management
services to people with disabilities, conduct outreach and education, public speaking, and community advocacy services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax/copier machines.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
This position is designed for a person who has extensive knowledge and understanding
of Independent Living philosophy, a social/political model of disability.
Bilingual: English/Spanish (preferred)
Demonstrated knowledge of: Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties, including community resources, and disability, cultural, and immigrant issues faced by people with disabilities
Demonstrated skills and experience in: promoting understanding of independent living philosophy, cross-disability concerns, and CCCIL services to diverse audiences.
Communication with persons of diverse backgrounds and communication styles Informal teaching.
Organization, time management, and prioritization.
Working independently and as part of a team.
Statistical data collection and reporting.
General office procedures and office equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of time. The person in this position needs occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machines, copiers and printers.
EMOTIONAL EFFORT
The emotional effort and stress level vary. There are often periods of short deadlines and high activity/demands. The job entails interacting with persons with a variety of disabilities and a variety of communication and behavioral styles. The person in this position frequently communicates with community members who have inquiries about CCCIL services. Must be able to exchange accurate information in
these situations.
