YOUTH AMBASSADORS FOR PEACE

The Monterey County Youth Ambassadors for Peace Program (YAP) is a program of the Monterey County Workforce Development Board for participants between the ages of 16 and 24. The YAP program is designed to redirect and (re)engage disconnected youth in Monterey County to education, workforce training, mentoring, and community service activities. It will also address those youth who have been involved in, or are at-risk of anti-social social behavior associated with gang membership and those who are hard to serve. This 18 month program offers an intensive, relationship-oriented, hands-on leadership and career preparation experience. This innovative program addresses youth needs as well as the larger community problem of gang violence, by weaving the following tested and un-tested components:

  • Multi-Disciplinary Case-Management
  • Intensive Youth Development
  • Reconnection with Education
  • Career Pathways Exploration
  • Mentorship
  • Alumni Services

Our program services will only be as good as you choose to make them. Throughout your involvement, we will do our best to provide you with the guidance, resources, information and support to empower you to make informed decisions and choices about personal, professional and educational aspects of your life. Your choices will make a difference in your life, and the entire Youth Ambassadors for Peace team appreciates your hard work and efforts

Eligibility Requirements:


  • Age 16-24
  • Involved in the juvenile justice system OR have not attended secondary school for the most recent complete school year quarter.
  • At risk of violence
  • Are gang involved
  • Youth involved in truancy or criminal delinquency
